Before you even think of making money with affiliate marketing you first need to understand what it’s really all about. Affiliate marketing as an enormous topic is basically the process of promoting another company’s products or services for a commission. The process is quite easy and smooth to follow –
- Do thorough keyword research and a get a keyword.
- Build a niche site for that keyword.
- Make the niche site rank highly on SERP for that keyword.
- Sign up with some affiliate companies to promote their products (or their sites through referral links).
- Get cool cash$ each time someone buys through your referral links.
So as you can see, by following the process above, you’d notice that the first bullet point is probably the hardest part of the whole process. In short, a slight mistake from that part can ruin your entire dream of ever making money through affiliate marketing. The reason is that there are some keywords which aren’t profitable in the sense that there aren’t people that want to buy from referral link even if you’re topping the SERP for that specific keyword.
So I’d be showing you a very simple strategy (you might have heard of it before) which you can use to get profitable keywords for a niche site that’ll earn money for you through affiliate marketing.
The site I’m going to use is simply www.alexa.com.
Now, the first thing you need to do is search for any website which blogs about the niche you’re targeting.
For example, since I like the technology niche very much, I can decide to use any blog there for this awesome affiliate niche set up. So for this tutorial, I’ll be using – www.geeksaresexy.net. Enter the chosen URL and hit search.
After searching, click on the specific site (Alexa sometimes shows you more than 2 instances.)
Once you’ve clicked on the site in question, you’d be directed a new page where the site’s analytical stats will be thoroughly shown to you in great detail.
Scroll down and locate the “Top Keywords from Search Engines” section. There. You’d see which search phrase sends more traffic to their sites more than other keyword phrases.
As you can clearly see the top five search keywords for www.geeksaresexy.net are-
Search keywords:
- Signs your cell phone is being monitored
- 3pic
- Exchange 2013 log files growing
- How do I delete an app
- Delete files
The last one resonates more with me because of its low monthly EXACT searches of 1,900 (the lower the Exact monthly searches the faster you can make money from them, make sure yours is not too low), so I’d run it through Google to find out whether I have any strong competition.
As shown above, no site is really trying to rank for this term as all the sites ranking for this keyword are basically posts which were posted sometime ago on those sites and since a lot of them have big social media presence, the post was sky-rocketed to the first page in no time after many shares and multiple links from other sites.
This observation leads me think of it as a good keyword to build a niche site around, but to be sure whether the keyword isn’t something that would die down in popularity, I’ll be using Google Trends to check how popular the keyword is at the moment.
Now, having affirmed that it’s a very sound keyword to create a niche site around, I’d need to get an EMD (exact match domain) for the keyword. But my search on Godaddy for that exact match keyword – www.howtodeletefiles.com shows that it isn’t available, so I’ll chose the other listed. Maybe the 2nd one – www.howtodeletefiles.info
Assumable, I end up registering it and head to create a website – using either WordPress or Blogger blog – which I’ll use to link to the domain. After linking, I host et cetra – you know the whole process of creating and hosting a blog, right?
So once I’m done with that, I proceed to create awesome contents for the topic in other to make the blog look like a niche site. Like 5 topic concentrating on the concept of deleting files will be created and published on the blog.
Remember to write unique contents which people coming to your site would appreciate. If not, you might end up not getting any traction with your own niche site.
The next thing to do in other to finalize the process is to build links to the blog. Links tell whether your site will be in first page of Google search or not so you might really want to do this religiously.
To build links quickly you might want to follow these effective ways –
- Do blog commenting on numerous blogs.
- Write guest posts for blogs with high PR.
- Submit article to article submission sites e.g. Ezinearticles, etc.
- Write for tutorial sites e.g. tutorialspoint, how-to etc.
Keep building links to the site as much as you can possibly build. And in no time your niche site would be ranking on the first page for your desired key phrase.
Once you’re amid with that exercise, go on below, register on these affiliate giant sites and find a product that resonates more with the niche you’re in and fits it squarely. After finding one or numerous ones, go ahead to promote the heck out of it.
These are some of the top affiliate companies online where you can find products to promote as an affiliate –
