Networking – this word has been abuzz in recent years and many have either been asked about joining one or what it actually is. For a lot of people, it connotes a disagreeable, almost negative, meaning: people who are inside a banquet hall, thinking and discussing of ways on how they can all become rich without investing too much money and hard work. Or even a coffee shop conversation with someone who is promising to make your small bill worth more.
To clear up one myth, networking and multi-level marketing (which is what was described above) are not similar, and yet they are being mistaken as one and the same. This wrongful connection has painted a discouraging image for networking amongst many, and has made it hard for networkers to actually dispel the wrong image.
Successful networking is really about getting to know people who can help you develop your career, business, or even your own personal community. It’s as it actually connotes in the sense of the word – connections and relationships that are mutually beneficial. It is about meeting people who can help you find potential candidates for your business, new investors for your startup, clients for your services, and even individuals who can help increase awareness for the issues that you stand for and care about.
Networking is vastly different from multi-level marketing in this aspect alone. With networking, the relationships and connections you gain benefits you as much as it benefits the other parties you are affiliated with because there is sharing of information, resources, services, and anything else that will add value to any potential or existing relationships you have involved. It is much more than a get-rich quick scheme – it is a cultivated and ever-expanding framework.
